Better than Motor Spirit which is kind of pre-course reading for this book - sensible decision not to squoosh the two together I think. I like Kobek best when he's prying appart culural moments as he does here (and also in Soft And Cuddly). Whether Kobek has identified Zodiac or not is kind of the beside the point (and I don't feel qualified to judge) the meat here is the portrait of the fanzine scene and sf/fantasy fandom of the 1950's, 60's, and 70s. Fascinating both in an of itself and for the way it prefigures the forms and norms of internet fora.
